The pandemic has deeply impacted learning experiences for students across America. As educators and students return to school this year, they will continue to navigate these challenges as they look for ways to redefine learning. The pandemic also put a stark spotlight on inequities in the sciences and science education, especially the lack of equal access. The good thing is that this has sparked an increased awareness and a desire for change to begin addressing these issues.
As we age, we begin to learn – sometimes firsthand – how devastating a fall can be. It isn’t quite as easy as it once was to hop back up and continue on our way.

A shaft of sunlight breaking through the tree canopy. A flashlight cutting through the darkness. A lightning strike illuminating the rainstorm. Here at FEF we know how dramatic a little illumination can be. That’s why the logo for the Forney Education Foundation is a torch and why our motto is “lighting the way for teaching and learning.” Many times we describe comprehension as a “light bulb moment” as the student’s face literally lights up when they learn something new. Our FISD teachers strive to have as many light bulb moments as possible in their classes--they know that affirmation from their students means that the lessons they are teaching are getting through to their students. And they also know that at the Foundation we’re here to help make those lights go on.
