Spring will come to life at the Dallas Arboretum’s Dallas Blooms: Birds in Paradise from February 19 to April 10, 2022. Named by Southern Living as one of “The Best Places to See Stunning Spring Blooms Across the South,” Dallas Blooms is the largest annual floral festival in the Southwest. Presented by Veritex Community Bank, Dallas Blooms will feature largerthan-life peacock topiaries along with more than 500,000 spring blooming bulbs to create the largest and most colorful floral display in the Southwest. An explosion of spring flowers comes from 100 varieties of spring bulbs, thousands of azaleas and hundreds of Japanese cherry trees.

The Mesquite City Council authorized Dalfen Industrial to enter into phase two of a development agreement adding approximately 1.3 million square feet in three new Class A industrial buildings on 89 acres at 1900 Airport Blvd. Phase One comprises approximately one million square feet in two buildings and is currently under construction.

At a special called board meeting on Feb. 17, the Forney ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a May bond referendum proposed by the Facilities Planning Committee. The bond package to go before voters in May will not increase the district’s tax rate. The district tax rate is currently $1.37 and has lowered 17 cents over the last 3 years.

Crandall ISD will have an additional item for voters on the May 7 ballot as school board members approved calling a $400-million bond election at Monday night’s regular meeting.

I hope that most of you know that I own Flower Basket. And today, you will all learn that my birthday was on Saturday. According to my children, these two facts make it impossible to shop for me (“What are we gonna get a florist the week of Valentine’s Day? Flowers?”) so they’ve worked very hard to make my birthday gifts meaningful; and every gift they give is that much more special because I know that they gave it so much thought.

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) will temporarily change the disinfectant in its water treatment process from March 1 through March 29, 2022. The annual, routine change is necessary to maintain the regional system and yearround water quality for the more than two million customers NTMWD serves in a 10-county region in North Texas in a 2,200-square-mile service area. NTMWD provides a capacity of more than 876 million gallons of treated water per day through more than 610 miles of transmission pipelines.

Emma Hawkins named to the fall 2021 President’s List

Each February, individuals across Canada and the United States celebrate Black History Month. Both nations have much to celebrate, and these are just a few of the individuals who have done much to advance the causes of Black people in the United States and Canada.

Madeline Burer of Forney Named to the Fall 2021 President’s List at Mississippi College

City Bank recently named Shayna Cash as the Branch Manager of the Plano location. She will oversee the daily operations of the branch in Plano. Shayna was previously a Banking Xperience Representative (BXR III) at the Forney branch.

The City of Mesquite has selected Whitney Golin as the new Director of Communications and Marketing effective Feb. 21. Golin brings 25 years of strategic marketing and communications experience to the role, having served as the director of marketing, communications, and outreach for the former Richland College of the Dallas County Community College District.
