Forney ISD invites our Forney Family to join us for the ceremonial groundbreaking of Mary Lou Dewberry Elementary on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m. on Falcon Way. Ms. Dewberry and family will be in attendance for the event.
Crispy cool mornings, soft pjs, ludicrously priced mum pots that never bloom all the way, pumpkins in pastel colors, high school football, the smell and color and taste of cloves and cinnamon: These are a few of my favorite things. Don’t misunderstand. I am a summer girl through and through. Cold natured to my core, you will never hear me complain about the heat. But, I cannot deny the excitement I feel when that first temp dip hits hard. It’s easier to breathe. It’s easier to linger outside at night with a few less mosquitos lying in wait. The stores burst at their seams with plaid and houndstooth and muted dark colors. Pumpkin everything is king. There is, of course, a meme I love to reference that perfectly details the metamorphosis of a southern woman in fall. There’s this pug. That’s already funny seeing as… it’s a pug. She’s swathed in a chunky fall scarf. She’s got a Starby’s cup and Ugg boots. She has long, luxurious hair. The caption reads “five minutes after I see a leaf hit the ground.” Sure, our days may flirt with the 90s for a bit longer, but our nights are the stuff of dreams.
Over the last couple of years, we’ve had a lot of practice backyarding. This is the act of doing indoor things – think dining, working, entertaining, exercising and even vacationing – outdoors, like in our own backyards. According to the TurfMutt Foundation, which advocates for the care and use of all green space, many Americans have taken their backyarding practices up a notch.

With overwhelming grief in his voice, Mr. John Sutton, a Kaufman County resident, explained to the Commissioners’ Court that on October 5, he called 911 because his six-month-old grandson had stopped breathing. Mr. Sutton said when paramedics arrived, the baby could not be revived, but he said the one thing that held him together in that moment was the compassion shown by Precinct 3 Kaufman County Deputy Constable Wade Bowden. Mr. Sutton said in that moment of unbearable grief, Deputy Bowden came up and offered up prayer with him.
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) officially dedicated Bois d’Arc Lake in Fannin County, TX, to celebrate the completion of the state’s newest major reservoir and its associated operations facilities.
It is so gratifying to be a member of the Board for the Forney Education Foundation. The opportunity to meet enthusiastic, dedicated teachers and staff members of Forney ISD happens frequently – and no better time than when the Grant Train rolls through the district, stopping at the various campuses and awarding the teachers their requested grants.
Mia Clarizio of Forney Receives Performing Arts Scholarship to RIT
All of the work and dedication of the Forney High School Band students paid off at the UIL Region 3, 5A Marching Contest held at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite on Oct. 12th. At the end of the 10 minute performance, the judges gave the band superior one ratings across the board for their efforts.
As inflation continues to put a strain on budgets, talk of an upcoming recession has Americans worried about their finances. Prices on everyday items continue to rise and consumers are trying to find ways to make their dollar stretch further while safeguarding their money against the potential challenges a recession may bring. The future may be difficult to predict, but preparing now can help consumers protect their financial health during a recession.
David Yoskowitz, Ph.D. was named executive director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department at a special meeting of the TPW Commission in Austin, Texas. Yoskowitz is currently the senior executive director and Endowed Chair for Socioeconomics at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
