City Council Denies Forney Police Chief’s Grievance

On Friday, February 26th, 2021, the Forney City Council met to discuss the grievance filed by Forney Police Chief Mica Lunt against Forney City Manager Tony Carson. After convening into open session, the Council immediately adjourned into executive session to discuss the grievance.

During a lengthy executive session, Council Members heard from City Attorney Jon Thatcher about his findings surrounding the grievance.

Upon their return into open session, the Council, by a vote of 4-3, formally denied the grievance.

Mr. Thatcher then sent a letter to Chief Lunt detailing his findings and the action by the Council to deny his grievance. In the letter to Chief Lunt, Mr. Thatcher writes, in part:

"The communication and interaction between yourself and the city manager on Friday, February 19th, 2021, was within the authority and purview of the city manager. As such, the complaint is a non-grievable action since it is not based on some violation of law or policy, etc., but rather, is a complaint regarding the employee's individual working conditions.”
