This year has been tough for many. Despite the challenges, acts of compassion and generosity can bring together the global community. With this holiday season different than those before, it is important to remember the world’s shared humanity and help make the season brighter.
For better or worse, the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the devastating impact health inequities have on people of color; especially members of the Black and Hispanic/Latino communities.
In what’s certain to be a holiday season unlike any other, you can transform your seasonal menu in 20 minutes of prep time or less by incorporating flavorful ingredients that make ordinary dishes extraordinary, ensuring the holidays are as special and memorable as any other year.
Therapeutic and rehabilitation benefits of crafting are well-known to those who’ve experienced them firsthand, but advocates want more people to understand what a powerful healing tool it can be, particularly for the nation’s veterans during this time of increased isolation and anxiety.
After almost 60 years of ‘taking to the whitetail woods’, I think I am qualified to at least take a stab at answering the question, ‘what is a trophy buck?’ This question might sound simple, especially to those of you that have just begun your whitetail hunting career but take it from me, it’s a question that has kept deer hunters awake at night.
According to the 2019 Texas Hunting Incident Analysis, Texas has seen a substantial decrease in hunting-related accidents and fatalities since Hunter Education became mandatory in 1988. That year, over 18,000 Texans received their Hunter Education certification, but 12 fatalities and 70 accidents were still reported throughout the state. As more Texans have taken to the field and obtained their Hunter Education certification, these numbers have improved, with over 56,000 certifications in 2019 and only 1 fatality, and 21 accidents, reported statewide.
Hunting season throughout Texas is already in full swing but Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Community Archery Program aims to help future hunters prepare for next season or find a hobby with archery sports. Adaptive and accessible to most any audience, the program helps to facilitate the spread of archery skills to those hoping to bring home a meal of wild game, competitive archers and even target shooters who simply enjoy the social and health benefits that the sport has to offer.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) wants to remind hunters to report their harvests during the upcoming antlerless deer season, Nov 26 — 29.
Forney Families really stepped up again this year with donations during the 2020 Forney ISD Pack the Pantry Food Drive to benefit the Forney Food Pantry.
On Saturday, October 24, 2020 at about 10:15pm, members of the Forney Police Department were dispatched to a local Dollar General Store in reference to an Aggravated Robbery that had already occurred. Two black males armed with handguns forced entry into the store, taking cash from the register. One suspect removed children from a vehicle in the parking lot and forced them inside the store. A single shot was fired into the ceiling by one of the suspects. No injuries were reported, and Forney Police Investigators have been working with other law enforcement jurisdictions who have recently experienced similar offenses. On Thursday November 12th Detectives with the Forney Police Criminal Investigations Divisions identified the two suspects and obtained arrest warrants for:
Those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others are rarely in it for recognition. However, in this especially challenging year, the holiday season is a perfect time to not just show these selfless people your appreciation, but also take inspiration from their kindness. Here are five simple ways to thank the everyday heroes in your life.
Thanksgiving is next week. The year 2020 has both flown and dragged by for many people but the Forney Education Foundation has been busy all year. Even though the world changed drastically in March, FEF kept up with the wonderful teachers who had their grants funded as well as ways to continue getting funding for the next school year’s teacher grants and student reimbursements. The school district received great news from Dallas College this past September that all dual credit students at Forney and North Forney were going to receive a full scholarship for their classes so the only expense they faced were for the textbooks. Also, Forney ISD community and staff will receive in-district tuition rates for Dallas College courses taught at Forney ISD. This wonderful announcement meant that funds that FEF would have used for dual credit scholarships could be used to pay for the test all students have to take to see if they can take college classes.

As holiday shopping season kicks into high gear, retailers who use apps and mobile responsive websites to reach more customers may benefit by making a concerted effort to reach older shoppers. According to Nielsen’s Mobile Measurement, 26 percent of the more than 100 million mobile shoppers are 55 and older, while an additional 40 percent are between the ages of 25 and 44. Those figures might surprise some retailers who are quick to associate mobile shopping with digital-native Millennials. Nielsen’s Fourth-Quarter 2018 Mobile Multicultural Insights report even noted that Hispanics are more inclined to shop via mobile than non-Hispanic, white smartphone owners. Retailers may also be interested to know that more and more shoppers are turning to apps instead of websites to do their shopping. Between the fourth quarter of 2017 and the fourth quarter of 2018, Nielsen reports that 101.4 million smartphone users accessed a shopping app. By the fourth quarter of 2017, that figure had risen to 109.9 million users.
