Jane Salgada Recognized for Designing 2020 Forney ISD Holiday Card

The Forney ISD Board of Trustees recognized the student that designed the District’s 2020 Holiday Card at the January board meeting on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. Jane Salgada, an 8th grade student at Warren Middle School was recognized by the Board of Trustees for having her artwork selected for the front cover of the 2020 Forney ISD Holiday Card.

I bet most of you that have spent a lifetime in the outdoors can recall some ‘close calls’, times in the woods or on the water that cause you to shudder when reminiscing about the past events. I certainly can! One would think that most of these events were caused by wild animals, ie. cougars, bear, wild boar. Some were but some of the scariest things that happened to me had nothing to do with critters with fangs and claws.

With the loss of jobs in the community due to the pandemic, the City of Mesquite stepped forward last year to help the public gain employment opportunities, skills training and hope through a series of public outreach efforts. The Mesquite Chamber of Commerce recognized this and presented the City with the 2020 Mesquite Business Retention and Expansion Employer of the Year Award.

Turning down a parking lot row and finding a close parking space, getting out of your vehicle and finding a $10 bill on the ground when you have no money in your pocket, running late and the elevator opens just as you arrive enabling you to be on time. Depending on your personal outlook, these are just a moment of luck --or-- a miracle.

Start the New Year with $5 Admission to the Dallas Arboretum

It’s time to leave 2020 behind and look forward to a new year! To kick off 2021 and encourage people to enjoy the gardens and the outdoors, the Dallas Arboretum offers $5 general admission beginning January 2 for the entire month. Tickets must be purchased online. Parking is $15 or $10 if purchased online in advance. The Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden is closed for preventative maintenance January 2nd to February 19th.

According to KRON-4 on January 3, 2021, NEW ZEALAND’S large crowds gathered “MASKLESS” to “ring in the New Year.” Supposedly, this was made possible by action beginning last February, when the country set forth a strict COVID-19 plan to combat the pandemic, helping them to achieve a result of only 25 deaths in total from the virus since that time.
