Mesquite Addresses Illegal Fireworks, Gunfire and DWI for Independence Day Holiday

In advance of July 4th, the City of Mesquite has announced it will aggressively address the illegal possession or use of fireworks, as well as celebratory gunfire and driving while intoxicated (DWI) through its “Celebrate Safely” campaign. The city has begun its community-wide public education efforts and during the Independence Day weekend will have escalated enforcement with the deployment of police and fire staff into neighborhoods.

As a part of its new Clean City Initiative, the Mesquite City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers that go into effect October 1, which include trash being secured in trash bags within an approved trash container, specific times on when the trash can be set out for collection, and limits on bulky items. Those customers placing trash out not in compliance with the new rules will be assessed a variety of administrative fees depending on the violation.

Taylor Childress of Forney Named to the Spring 2021 Dean’s List at Mississippi College

The Mississippi College Office of Academic Affairs releases the dean’s list after the close of fall and spring semesters each academic year. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average, based on a 4.0 system. The student must take a full course load of at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate credit with all academic courses impacting their grade point average.

Emergency Order Issued to Restrict Movement of Deer from Breeding Facilities Where CWD has Been Detected

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has issued an “emergency order” to impose additional movement and testing restrictions on deer breeding facilities that are affiliated with six deer breeding facilities where Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been positively detected. Existing rules already restrict the movement of deer from 264 sites in 95 counties that are directly linked to these CWD-positive facilities, but further measures are necessary given the gravity of this situation.

More than 150 healthcare workers who did not comply with a Houstonbased hospital system’s vaccine mandate have been fired or resigned, more than a week after a federal judge upheld the policy.
